The Roof is a four-piece band from Pittsburgh, PA decorating tones across genres of music including (but not limited to) country, indie, alternative and psychedelic. Their humble beginnings started in the central Pennsylvania mountains at Penn State Altoona in 2015 during their freshman year of college. Initially only friends with similar music taste, they decided to form a band with more serious intent.

Their sound pulls from several eras and genres for inspiration, including Tyler Childers, The Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin, Mt. Joy, Hozier, Lumineers, Caamp, and more. Honing their skill through DIY tours, dive bars, city streets, and makeshift mountain stages, they’ve since gained a dedicated following throughout the East Coast and Midwest.

In 2018, The Roof recorded their first EP, “Tangled Lives” in their college apartment and shortly after a live EP, “Live at 3 Dots.” Over the next couple years, singles “Highway”, “We Sure Did”, and “Blending Of The Hues” were released, which were also self-produced and engineered. The Roof would later work with producer Rich Stine on their first LP, who’s worked with acts such as The Head And The Heart, Joshua James, and The Bones of J.R. Jones.

The first single released in September 2022, "Shangri-La", has amassed over 140,000 streams to date. Just three months later in December, they released “Headstone”, which has over 120,000 listens and counting.

In 2023, The Roof had the honor of opening for WonderWorks Music Festival, headlining Waynestock Outdoor Adventure and Music Festival, and performed as a featured artist at AmericanaFest in Nashville, TN.

Q: How’d you get into playing guitar, and how long have you been playing?

A: My Grandpa got me my first guitar when I was 4 years old, and I started playing when I was 7.

Q: Who are your favorite musicians?

A: My favorite musician is Jerry Garcia, but Jimi Hendrix, Trey Anastasio, Joey Landreth, and Ariel Posen have all had the most significant impact on my playing style.

Q: Outside of music, what’s something you love to do?

A: I love going fly fishing and snowboarding with my close friends.

  • Skyler Scholl playing drums for The Roof band

    Skyler Scholl

    Drummer

Q: What made you want to start a band?

A: I never really wanted to start a band, it kind of just happened. Once we got together and played our first note, nothing could compare to the allure of creating a sonic something from nothing.

Q: Who has influenced you the most musically?

A: Neil Young, Tom Petty, and Tyler Childers

    Q: What’s your favorite color?

    A: Turquoise

  • Francis Musaraca is lead singer for The Roof band

Q: How long have you been writing songs?

A: I’ve been writing for about 7 years now!

Q: What inspires you the most musically?

A: Just creation in general; the act of expressing for me. Stories and other peoples' works also inspire me heavily.

    Q: What’s your favorite book?

A: I’m a big fan of Stephen King, so I’d say Salem’s Lot is my favorite book.

  • Amico Demuzio playing bass for The Roof band

    Amico Demuzio

    Bassist

Q: If you could collaborate with any musician, who would it be and why?

A: Karlheinz Stockhausen, a 20th century German composer who pioneered early electronic synthesizer abient/noise music, which has always inspired me to “compose” - in the loosest sense of the term - my own pieces. I feel like we could make some of the most interesting and terrifying electronic noise known to man.

Q: What do you like most about being in a band?

A: Aside from the musical ventures, I’d say the comradery and zany experiences we share outside of gigs. Although the shows are a hell of a lot of fun themselves!

    Q: What’s your favorite food?

A: Due to my Italian heritage it’s only right that it’s a pasta dish- cajun chicken and sausage in cream sauce over fettucine from my local old-world Italian joint, Sal’s Ristorante in Chippewa.

“At their best, The Roof taps into a realm of sonic truth that’s out there somewhere. Their sound is urgent, yet patient, at times euphoric and telepathic. If that sounds like bullsh*t, well, they fooled me, because I’m a believer!”
